Spring Signing Day 2017 for Class of 2017  

Mount St. Mary Seniors Signing National Letters of Intent

 

Five Mount St. Mary Academy seniors signed National Letters of Intent to compete in the 2017-18 collegiate seasons on Tuesday, April 25.

 

Mary Grace Downey is a three-year Varsity Lacrosse player who alternates between defensive play and midfield. She helped the team earn the 2015 Monsignor Martin championship and led the team to a 2016 play-off finals berth. Additionally, Mary Grace was a member of the Varsity Soccer team in her junior year, contributing to the team’s Monsignor Martin League B Division Playoff Championship title. As a freshman and sophomore, Mary Grace competed in indoor track breaking school records in the 4x200 and 4x400, and competing in the New York State Federation championship meet in 2014 and 2015. She will join the John Carroll University lacrosse team, a Division III program.                        

Paige Freer is a four-year player for the Thunder Varsity Soccer team where she has helped build the team’s momentum with a career record of 19 goals and 11 assists. Paige led the team to the Monsignor Martin B Playoff championship title in 2015 and a B Division League championship in 2016. This year, she was named team MVP and First Team All-Catholic B-Division.  Next year, Paige will be playing soccer at John Fisher College, a Division III school.

 

Grace Burich has been a pivotal part of the Thunder varsity lacrosse team’s defensive game. In her most recent game against Sacred Heart, Grace recovered seven ground balls, one third of the team’s recoveries that game. Last season, Grace helped lead the team to earn a playoff runner-up finish. Grace also played with the Varsity Soccer team this year, contributing to the team’s 2016 MML "B" Divison League Championship. Next year, she will join the lacrosse team at Ohio Wesleyan University, a Division III school.  

 

Gabrielle Teoli has been a strong rower with our Varsity Crew team since her freshman year. This year, she rows with the Varsity 2, Varsity 4, and Varsity 8 boats. As a sophomore, Gabrielle and the Varsity 8 boat won the New York State championship. She intends to row with Loyola Maryland, a Division I program.

 

Emily Trotman is a four-year player for the Thunder Varsity Softball team and held a .484 average last year with five home runs, including two in last year’s playoffs. As the pitcher, Emily has a 0 ERA and has earned All-Catholic First Team honors for the past two years. Emily is also a four-year Varsity Volleyball player, where she has dominated the net with her defensive play earning 60 kills for last season. She joins the Softball team at St. John Fisher College, a Division III school.

Congratulations, ladies!                        

We will miss you tremendously next year, but we know that you will accomplish great things. We hope that you bring to your new school the same dedication, determination and spirit that you have given to the Mount. We wish you both the very best of luck!

Fall Signing Day 2016 for class of 2017

Mount St. Mary Seniors Signing National Letters of Intent

Three Mount St. Mary Academy seniors signed National Letters of Intent to compete in the 2017-18 collegiate seasons on Wednesday November 16th, 2016. Congratulations to three Mount St. Mary Academy Class of 2017 members for their athletic accomplishments, Kelly Burns, Kaitlyn Hart and Molly Meegan. 

These young women have contributed their skills, spirit and leadership to Mount St. Mary Academy’s athletic program and today they will be taking the next step in their athletic careers by signing National Letters of Intent.


Molly Meegan has helped the Thunder earn championships in two sports basketball and lacrosse. Molly helped the basketball team capture the first state title in school history, by winning the 2015 New York State Catholic School Championship. Her success continued onto the lacrosse field as she played a key role in the team’s 2015 Monsignor Martin League and Playoff Championships and a 2016 playoff runner-up finish. In her varsity lacrosse career, she has scored a total of 72 goals and 44 assists as well as named an All Catholic winner in 2016.  Molly will join the Mercyhurst University lacrosse team, a Division II program. Congratulations Molly! We are so proud of you.  


Kaitlyn Hart has been an integral part of the MSM Thunder community throughout her four years at the Mount. A three season championship athlete, Katie has been a pivotal part of Thunder Soccer team’s MML “B” Division Playoff Championship in 2015 and MML “B” Division League Championship in 2016. In 2015, Katie also helped the Basketball team earn the New York State Catholic School Championship and played with the team in the New York State Federation finals. in her main sport, lacrosse, Katie helped lead the 2015 Thunder Lacrosse team to Monsignor Martin league and playoff championships. In 2016, she was named Monsignor Martin league Offensive MVP while leading her team to a playoff runner up finish.  As a four year varsity starter, She has scored 58 goals and 17 assists in her lacrosse career at Mount St. Mary Academy. She will be playing lacrosse at Slippery Rock, a Division II school on a partial athletic scholarship. Congratulations Katie! We are so proud of you.  


Kelly Burns is a four year MSM Thunder varsity swimmer. Kelly most recently took first place in the 50y and 100y freestyle, breaking a league record in the 100y and school records with times of 24.77 in 50y freestyle and 54.03 in 100y freestyle. She received the Natalie Lewis Award as the All-Catholic MVP and qualified for both individual races at the New York State Championship meets this weekend. Kelly’s success has not been limited to this season. Throughout her swimming career she has claimed 7 All Catholic titles. She currently holds the 500y free school record that she set as a freshmen. Kelly has been to the State Federation Meet all four years of her high school career. This is an incredible accomplishment qualifying to compete in relays and individual events with the best swimmers in the state. Beyond the pool, Kelly is a three season athlete and was a member of our 2015 New York State Catholic Schools B Championship basketball team and our 2015 Monsignor Martin League Championship track team. Additional, she has been featured three times as a Super 7 Athlete and was honored as second team All-Catholic in basketball. She will be swimming at Canisius College, a Division I school on a partial athletic scholarship. Congratulations Kelly! We are so proud of you.  

These three young women have been at the heart and soul of our athletic program, participating in every season and leading our Thunder to great success. We will miss you tremendously next year, but we know that you will accomplish great things. Fall Signing Day 2015 for Class of 2016

Today three of our students signed National Letters of Intent to continue their athletic careers at the NCAA level. Congratulations to Alexis Fredricks (swim), Grace Fredricks (swim)  and Kimberly Fohrd (cross country and track) on this exceptional accomplishment!

Lexi, Grace and Kim have contributed their skills, spirit and leadership to Mount St. Mary Academy’s athletic program and today will be taking the next step in their athletic careers by signing National Letters of Intent.

As a four year Varsity starter for the MSM Thunder swim team, Lexi Fredricks has broken records. She holds the Monsignor Martin League Record for the 100y Backstroke and the All-Catholic Record for the 200y IM. She and her relay teammates hold the All-Catholic and Monsignor Martin League Record for the 200y Freestyle and the All-Catholic record for the 200y Medley. She holds Buffalo State’s Pool records in the 100 fly, 100 back and the 200IM.

Lexi is the 2014 and 2015 All-Catholic Meet MVP Natalie Lewis Award winner, and a Super 7 Athlete. She will be returning to the NYS Federation championships in Ithaca on November 19 to swim the 100y Backstroke, 100y Butterfly and 200y Relay. She will be accepting a full scholarship to swim at Central Connecticut State University, a Division I Women's Swimming Program. Congratulations, Lexi!

Throughout it all, her teammate has been her twin sister, Grace Fredricks. Grace has been an integral part of the MSM Thunder swim team throughout her four years at the Mount. She received All-Catholic honors in 2014 for the 200y Individual Medley, 100y Backstroke, 200y Medley Relay and 200y Freestyle Relay. She is a Super 7 Athlete and holds the MSM school record for the 100y Breaststroke. Grace will also be swimming at Central Connecticut State University. Congratulations, Grace!

Kimberly Fohrd serves as team co-captain for the MSM Thunder Cross Country varsity team. She has run with Mount St. Mary Academy’s Cross Country and Track teams for three years, previously racing for Holy Angels Academy. 

Kim has received 1st Team All-Catholic honors in Cross Country in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. She was also selected for 2nd Team All-Catholic in Track for the 4x800m relay and the 800m, in which she holds the Monsignor Martin League and MSM record.

Kim has been honored as a #1 Super 7 Athlete, and was the MML Cross Country MVP in 2013 and 2014. She has qualified for State competition in every event that she runs.
She will be returning to the NYS Federation championships on November 21 for Cross Country, before beginning training for the track season. Kim is accepting a scholarship to run at Xavier University. Congratulations, Kim!


Spring Signing Day 2016

Five more Mount St. Mary Academy Seniors sign National Letters of Intent to compete in the 2016-17 collegiate seasons!

Maeve Christ – Ice Hockey – Holy Cross 

 

Molly Frauenheim, Maureen Frauenheim and Sophie Carroll have been teammates for the past four years, winning many local, regional and international medals in competition.  Together they have qualified and competed in multiple appearances at the US Scholastic Nationals Regatta. All three have competed in the Grand Finals at the Canadian National Championship (CSSRA) in St. Catherine’s and at the prestigious 50th Head of Charles Regatta in Boston.

Molly Frauenheim is a Bronze medal winner at the Head of Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia. Molly and Sophie are back to back New York State Champions. Both joining Division I programs, Molly will row at Colgate University and Sophie will row at Robert Morris University.

Maureen Frauenheim is a New York State Champion at both the club and scholastic level. She is the two-time Captain of the Varsity team. She will be rowing at Loyola University Maryland, a Division I school.
    
Rachel Joachimi is 4-year varsity runner in all 3 seasons, who excels in short distance and jumping. She holds MSM records in 55 m, 55 m hurdles, 300m, 4x400m relay, sprint medley relay, and high jump. Rachel will compete for Canisius College in Division I track.

Maeve Christ is starting defenseman and co-captain of the MMHSAA ice hockey team, the 2016 Federation Champions. She has 4 goals and 7 assists in 13 games played this season. She will be playing Division III Hockey with Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts.



Additional Spring Signing Day 2016

Two more Mount St. Mary Academy seniors signed National Letters of Intent to compete in the 2016-17 collegiate seasons on Thursday, May 19.

Elizabeth Suhay holds the school record in Triple Jump and has qualified for State Championships for 4 consecutive years in both Triple Jump and Long Jump. She has scored 36 points in the 2016 Outdoor Track season in her two events and has won four 1st place finishes in league play. Next year she will be competing with Niagara University’s track program, a Division I school.  

Alissa Miller-Gonzalez is a two-time state champion gold medal winner.  She has qualified in the finals at 1 US National Championship Regatta and just qualified for her women’s varsity four boat to US Nationals this past weekend.  She is a finalist at the Canadian National Championships.  Alissa has qualified to row at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta and has placed 3rd at the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia. Next year Alissa will be rowing with Skidmore College, a Division III school.

“Elizabeth and Alissa have contributed their skills, spirit and leadership to Mount St. Mary Academy’s athletic program,” said Dawn Riggie, Mount St. Mary Academy Principal. “We know both of these girls have the dedication and the talents to rise to the challenge of collegiate athletics.”

Suhay and Miller-Gonzalez join eight other Mount St. Mary seniors in pledging to play collegiate sports at their school of choice. 

 

Francesca (Franki) Gugino '16  will be playing Division I softball at Niagara University. She played varsity softball for four years at the Mount and has decided to continue her athletic career. Gugino was 2nd team All-Catholic in her freshman year and 1st team All-Catholic in 2015. She was also named a Super 7 Athlete by WKBW in her junior and senior years. A Section VI Scholar Athlete, Gugino pitched over 300 strikeouts at the Mount. She is very excited to see what her college career will bring.


Congratulations to Class of 2015 members, Olivia Macdonald and Catherine Meegan for their athletic accomplishments as they both signing their Nation Letters of Intent today. Olivia and Catie have contributed their skills, spirit and leadership to Mount St. Mary Academy’s athletic program and today they will be taking the next step in their athletic careers at the NCAA level.

Olivia Macdonald - Class of 2015

As a four year Varsity Lacrosse starter for the MSM Thunder and team co-captain, Olivia Macdonald has scored 21 goals and 4 assists this season, and 84 goals in her career. She was selected for the All-Catholic team in the 2013 and 2014 seasons, and the 1st team All Metro Girl's Lacrosse in 2014. She was also selected as MSM’s MVP last season and is already off to a great start this spring. 
 

Olivia is a three season athlete. She was a part of the 2015 NYS Catholic School Class B State Championship basketball team and was a 1st Team All Catholic Cross Country team member in 2012.

Olivia will be playing lacrosse at St. Bonaventure University, a Division I Women's Lacrosse Program and has been awarded a partial athletic scholarship. Congratulations, Olivia!

Catherine Meegan - Class of 2015

Catherine Meegan serves as team co-captain for the MSM Thunder varsity lacrosse team. This season she has scored 9 goals and 8 assists, and 71 goals in her career. She was selected for the All-Catholic team in the 2013 and 2014 seasons.  

Catie greatly contributed to the Thunder’s success on our 2015 NYS Catholic School Class B State Championship basketball team, where she was selected as 1st Team All Catholic. Catie also plays on the Thunder Varsity Soccer team.

She will play for Mercyhurst University Women's Lacrosse team in Erie, Pennsylvania, a division II program that is currently ranked in the top 10 in the nation. Congratulations, Catie!


We will miss you both tremendously next year, but we know that you will accomplish great things. We hope that you bring to St. Bonaventure and Mercyhurst the same dedication, determination and spirit that you have given to the Mount. We wish you both the very best of luck!

Class of 2014 - Jessica Hart

Jessica Hart is a member of the University at Buffalo Novice Crew team, beginning in Fall 2014. University at Buffalo has given Jessica a partial scholarship to be a part of their NCAA - Division I Crew Team and is currently serving as a team captain. Jessica was a three sport athlete at MSM and lettered in Soccer, Indoor Track and Lacrosse. Jessica won MML Playoff Championship in 2012, and MML league championships in 2012-2014 as part of the MSM Lacrosse team. Congratulations Jessica and good luck!

 

Class of 2014 - Marielle Buffamonte


Mareille Buffamonte is a member of the John Carroll University Women's Lacrosse team, beginning in Fall 2014. John Carroll University is a NCAA - Division III Women's Lacrosse program. Marielle was a three sport athlete at MSM and lettered in Golf, Ice Hockey and Lacrosse. Marielle won MML Playoff Championship in 2012, and MML league championships in 2012-2014 as part of the MSM Lacrosse team. As a member of the Monsignor Martin Ice Hockey Team, Marielle won Federation Championships in 2011 and 2013. Congratulations Marielle and good luck!

Caroline Dirr has rowed for the MSM varsity crew team for the past year, previously serving as coxswain for the Holy Angels Academy Crew team.  She will row for Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

As leading member of the MSM Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track and Field teams, Hailey Rose Gattuso has competed in the 4x800, 600, 1000 at the CHSAA Championship Meet. She was instrumental in leading the Thunder to their first (2012) and second (2013) MML championship in Cross Country. Gattuso will be running at St. Bonaventure University.

Molly Meka joined the MSM Thunder swim team as a senior, previously competing with Holy Angels Academy. Molly holds the HAA record for the 100y backstroke and was a NYS qualifier for the 100y freestyle, 200y freestyle relay and the 200y medley relay. As a member of the relay team, Meka helps hold the MML (1:39.35) and All Catholic (1:40.38) records in the 200y freestyle relay. She additionally swims for the Grand Island Swim Club. Meka will be swimming with the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

Samantha Barry and Natalie Brophy will join Division III teams. Barry will play basketball at the State University of New York at Geneseo. Barry finished her Thunder career with 629 points, 345 rebounds and 50 assists. During her senior year Barry had a record breaking year by scoring 351 points. 

Brophy will swim at State University of New York at Oswego. During her senior year Brophy was a member of the 200 yard freestyle relay which placed 7th in the State Championships and currently holds the Monsignor Martin Record as well as the MSM Record in this event.

Emma Sullivan - Class of 2013

Emma Sullivan will be a member of the Edinboro University Cross Country team beginning in Fall 2013. Edinboro University has given Emma a partial scholarship to be a part of their NCAA - Division II Cross Country Team. Emma leaves Mount St. Mary with school records in the 3000 meter, 2000 meter Steeple Chase, 4000 meter Distance Medley, and 1600 meter Sprint Medley Relay and a league record in the 3000 meter. Julia Duquette - Class of 2013

Julia Duquette will be a member of the Women's Ice Hockey Team for SUNY Plattsburgh beginning in the Fall of 2013. While playing at Mount St. Mary Academy for the Monsignor Martin Ice Hockey Team, Duquette was named to the 1st Team All WNY in the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Duquette also won the Girl's Ice Hockey Championship in 2012 and 2013 and was named to the Girls All-Federation Ice Hockey First Team in 2013. Duquette led the MML Team to an undefeated record of 20 - 0 in 2013. At SUNY Plattsburgh Duquette will be a member of their NCAA - Division III Women's Ice Hockey Team. Congratulations Julia and best of luck!

Shannon Pelitera - Class of 2013

Shannon Pelitera will be a member of the Women's Lacrosse Team for Canisius College beginning in the Fall of 2013. While playing at Mount St. Mary Academy, Shannon was named to the 1st Team All Catholic in 2012 and 2013, and Monsignor Martin League MVP in 2013 for Lacrosse. Shannon was also a member of the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Monsignor Martin Championship Varsity Lacrosse team at MSM. She leaves MSM as the 2nd All Time Goal Scorer in MSM history with 132 goals and posted the single season record in 2013 with 71 goals. In addition, Pelitera earned 2nd team ALL WNY in 2012 and 2013, Tonawanda News "Player of the Year" in 2012 and 2013, and All Metro Lacrosse Team in 2012 and 2013. At Canisius College Pelitera will be a member of their NCAA - Division I Women's Lacrosse Team. Congratulations Shannon and best of luck! Lauren Walsh - Class of 2012

 

Lauren Walsh will be a member of the Women's Soccer Team for D'Youville College beginning in the Fall of 2012. While playing at Mount St. Mary Academy, Lauren was named to the 1st Team All Catholic in 2011 and 2nd Team All Catholic 2010 for Soccer. Lauren was also a member of the 2011 and 2012 Monsignor Martin Championship Varsity Lacrosse team at MSM. D'Youville College has awarded Lauren a substantial academic scholarship and she will be a part of their NCAA - Division III Soccer Team. Congratulations Lauren and best of luck!

Brianna Trapper - Class of 2012

Brianna Trapper will be a member of the Softball Team for Utica College beginning in the Fall of 2012. While playing at Mount St. Mary Academy, Brianna was named to the 1st Team All Catholic in 2012 and 2nd Team All Catholic 2011 for Softball. Utica College has awarded Brianna a substantial academic scholarship and she will be a part of their NCAA - Division III Softball Team. Congratulations Brianna and best of luck!

Emily Herzig - Class of 2012

Emily Herzig will be a member of the Crew Team for Duquesne University in the Fall of 2012. Emily has rowed for the West Side Rowing Club over the past several years. Duquesne University has given Emily a scholarship to be a part of their NCAA - Division I Crew Team. Congratulations Emily and best of luck!

 

Malayah White - Class of 2012

Malayah White will be a member of the University at Buffalo Track and Field team beginning in Fall 2012. University at Buffalo has given Malayah a full-athletic scholarship to be a part of their NCAA - Division I Track and Field Team. Malayah leaves Mount St. Mary with school records in the 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 400 meter Relay, 1600 meter Relay, and 1600 meter Sprint Medley Relay and league records in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter. Congratulations Malayah and good luck!

 

 

Kelly Barrett - Class of 2012

 

 

 

Kelly Barrett will be a member of the Women's Softball Team for Nazareth College beginning in the Fall of 2012. While playing at Mount St. Mary Academy, Kelly was named a ALL-WNY Section VI Scholar Athlete Winner in basketball and track and Honorable Mention for volleyball. Additionally, Kelly was named the 2012 Mount St. Mary Academy Athlete of the Year. Nazareth College has awarded Kelly the Presidential Scholarship and she will be a part of their NCAA - Division III Softball Team. Congratulations Kelly and best of luck!
