Girls Varsity Ice Hockey loses 1 to 0 Kenmore/Grand Island I’m Quarter Finals

Game Date
Feb 12, 2019

The MMHSAA girls' season came to an abrupt end as they lost to Kenmore/Grand Island 0-1 in the Federation quarterfinals last night at the Northtown Center.

The only goal of the game was scored on the power play in the 2nd period. Netminder Izzy Battaglia (COH) made the initial pad save on a shot, but the rebound fell perfectly to a Ken/GI forward on the far post who buried the goal before Battaglia could slide over.

The girls nearly tied it up later in the 2nd period when a shot went perfectly between the Ken/GI goalie's legs, but came to a halt on the goal line. The official had a good view of the puck and said no goal, much to the disagreement of everyone from the MMHSAA.

The MMHSAA outshot Ken/GI 31-14, but the majority of the shots went high, wide, or right to the goalie. An off night for the girls, but after playing (and beating) Ken/GI 3 previous times this season, last night happened to be their night.

The girls end the season at 11-3-1.

A big congratulations to our seniors for a stellar career in the deep purple:

Assistant captain Emily Matthew (MSM),

Marcella Rodgers (COH),

Assistant captain Mackenzie Blake (SHA),

Ava Tower (MSM),

Isabella Battaglia (COH), &

Captain Izzy Friedman (Nardin).

Not the ending the girls would have liked, but the team is in good hands moving forward. Lots of young talent, many core returners, & all hard workers!

The All-Federation teams should be announced soon,
